Choosing a Surgeon For Your Labiaplasty
If you’re tired of suffering, either physically or emotionally, because of abnormally large, or protruding labia (the inside lips of the vagina), you may be considering undergoing cosmetic surgical procedure called labiaplasty. Given that this is not a particularly well-known, or often talked about procedure, it can be difficult knowing how to choose the right surgeon to do the job for you. Here are a few of the more important things to consider in choosing a doctor:
- Familiarity with the procedure
- Good aesthetic/artistic sense
- Advanced surgical skills and experience
- Caring and considerate
Familiarity with the Procedure
It may seem obvious to include this, but no matter how outstanding a plastic surgeon is in every other respect, if he’s not familiar with the labiaplasty procedure, he’s not the right doctor for your needs. Although it is not particularly common, this is likewise not a particularly rare procedure, and most qualified plastic surgeons will be reasonably knowledgeable about it.
Good Aesthetic/Artistic Sense
One of the most common reasons women give for undergoing labiaplasty is self-consciousness or embarrassment at the appearance of their vagina. One of the most important measures of success, therefore, is how everything looks when all is said and done. A surgeon can have a firm grasp on all the latest skills and techniques, and be an absolute wizard with the scalpel, but if he doesn’t have a solid grasp of aesthetics — what is visually appealing and what is not – he is unlikely to be able to produce a satisfying result.
Advanced Surgical Skills and Experience
Having made the previous point about aesthetic sense, you still want a doctor with great surgical technique. Having a great aesthetic vision is not particularly useful unless you are able to bring that vision into existence in the real world, and when that aesthetic vision involves the appearance of your vagina, it’s even more important to get it right the first time.
The surgical skill of your doctor can also have a big impact on things such as your recovery time, and the likelihood of complications, so it’s important to ask questions about his recent training as well as his experience with this and other related procedures.
Before undertaking something as serious as surgically altering the appearance of your labia, it’s important to be as confident as possible you’ve chosen the best plastic surgeon for you. Once you’ve narrowed it down to a likely choice of doctor, you should book a consultation with him. This is as much for you to evaluate his knowledge and manner as it is for him to become acquainted with your situation, needs, and physiology. You should then only proceed if you are confident in your choice.
