Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

One of the most common plastic surgery procedures is the tummy tuck. This is a procedure where the excess abdominal fat and skin is directly excised. Once the excess fat and skin are removed, we tighten up your loose abdominal wall musculature and redrape the remaining tissue for an enhanced abdominal wall shape and contour. This procedure is ideal when patients are poor liposuction candidates or their abdominal muscles are weak and separated, as often happens after childbirth. This procedure rejuvenates the abdominal wall and gives it a more youthful shape.

Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose tissues after pregnancy or individuals with sagging after major weight loss.

While the ultimate goal of an abdominoplasty procedure is to flatten and tighten your abdominal area and restore your figure, there are many ways of achieving this goal. Depending on your body habitus, your surgical needs may vary. Dr. Liu performs a variety of types of abdominoplasty procedures, including 1. The Mini-Tummy Tuck 2. Skin-only Tummy Tuck 3. Traditional tummy tuck 4. Floating abdominoplasty 5. Contoured abdominoplasty

Mini-Tummy-Tuck

Has weight loss or pregnancy left you with a sagging, flabby stomach that just won’t seem to go away despite how much running and exercise you perform. There is just that little bit of loose skin between your belly button and pubis that you can’t get rid of no matter what you try. It makes clothes feel uncomfortable. If these are your problems, the mini-tummy tuck is designed to eliminate this persistent area of nuisance. Dr. Liu can simply and quickly remove the skin while leaving a mini-scar that can be well hidden below your bikini or underwear line. You don’t have to feel self conscience about loose redundant skin and feel uncomfortable in your clothes.

The mini-tummy tuck was designed for women who have isolated areas skin laxity in their lower abdomen. We are able to remove the redundant skin using much smaller incisions and tighten up their abdominal wall muscles if necessary. This is a great option for women who do not need a full tummy tuck.

Skin-Only Tummy Tuck

Short of a traditional tummy tuck where you have abdominal wall muscle laxity and involves placating/tightening your abdominal wall muscle, a Skin-Only Tummy Tuck specifically addresses patients with loose abdominal skin. The loose skin can be in the Epigastric area (between your chest and belly button) or in the lower abdomen (between your belly button and pubis), or both. The skin laxity involed would be more extensive than that which can be addressed by a Mini-Tummy Tuck. The Skin-Only Tummy Tuck is able to effectively address large areas of skin laxity with improved post-operative recovery. This is ideal for those patients with good abdominal tone and just needs moderate abodominal refinement.

Traditional Tummy-Tuck

Has weight loss or pregnancy left you with a sagging, flabby stomach that just won’t seem to go away despite how much running and crunches you do? A tummy-tuck, aka abdominoplasty, with or without liposuction, may be able to give you the flat stomach and figure you seek. Tighten your muscles and remove excess stretch-mark marred skin and fat, all at the same time. Regain that washboard flat tummy you had or always wanted to have. Dr. Liu also specializes in a special contoured abdominoplasty that combines liposuction with an abdominoplasty procedure that give superior results over traditional techniques.

Floating Tummy-Tuck

This new technique, also known as an extended mini abdominoplasty, allows for tightening and shaping through a smaller incision that isn’t placed around the belly button. Though this smaller incision, excess skin is removed and the belly button is temporarily detached, floating above the muscles during this process. The muscles are tightened and reshaped from sternum to pubic area. The skin is then tightened and the belly button is reattached, or moved down one or two cm if desired. Liposuction may also be performed to achieve desirable results.

Contoured tummy-tuck

This new and state-of-the-art specialized technique combining liposuction and abdominoplasty produces superior results and enhanced patient satisfaction. Your abdomen is liposuctioned first to thin out your skin flaps prior to a abdominoplasty that will both tighten your loose or dehisced abdominal muscles and remove your loose, stretch mark scarred redundant skin. The reason why this combination procedure produces superior results is that you can actually see your true figure. For example, if you had a great figure, you would be better able to show off your figure by wearing a elegant thin evening gown rather than when you are wearing a fur coat. The same concept applies to your body. These results are far superior to traditional techniques.

Lipoabdominoplasty (Liposuction + Abdominoplasty)

A variation of the tummy tuck procedure, lipoabdominoplasty combines both a traditional tummy tuck with liposuction. What we often find in our tummy tuck patients is a very thick and fatty abdominal wall subcutaneous tissue. If this tissue were redraped after the redundant tissue were removed, the final result is still less than ideal. When we combine liposuction to the traditional abdominoplasty procedure, we can thin out the abdominal wall skin flaps prior to redraping so that you have a much better defined figure. The results of lipoabdominoplasty compared to traditional abdominoplasty is akin to wearing a thin skimply dress that accentuates your figure rather a thick fur coat.
